MMORPGs like World of Warcraft can be insanely confusing at first if you’ve never played them. There are a lot of rules to learn, and unlike in a single-player game, you’ve got a whole audience of people watching if you make mistakes.
This means some people have really basic questions about the game but are afraid to ask for fear that the in-game chat will be…well, less than helpful, which can sometimes be the case.
The good news is that we’re happy to answer all your basic questions about the game. With over a decade of experience in playing WoW, we’d like to think we know a thing or two about it.
In this quick, bite-sized post, we’ll tell you what a dishonorable kill is in WoW Classic, and how it impacts you as a player.
What is a Dishonorable Kill in WoW Classic?
The honor system is a way of deterring players from playing unfairly in PVP (player vs player). You get a dishonorable kill by killing civilian NPCs.
The reason this system exists is to ensure the game is equally fun for beginners or low-level players. Otherwise, some people will kill quest NPCs to prevent lower-level players from completing quests.
Some people think that you get dishonorable kills for killing extremely low-level players. This isn’t necessarily the case, but we wouldn’t recommend ganking people who could otherwise be beginners, anyway.
What Happens if You Get a Dishonorable Kill?
Getting a dishonorable kill can have a massive impact on your PVP ranking. You’ll start by losing points, and repeated offenses could lead to you losing one whole rank.
For that reason, the honor system can be kind of controversial. Many players argue that a single offense shouldn’t set you back so far, especially if you’ve otherwise been a consistently good participant. Furthermore, it’s entirely possible to kill an NPC on accident with an AOE (area of effect) ability.
Wrap Up
As one of the most popular MMORPGs out there, WoW has a ton of history and topics to discuss. It’s easy to get confused if you’re just getting into the game today, what with the expansions and constantly changing world.
If you have any other questions about the game that you want us to address, stay tuned. We’re planning on adding much more WoW content to help beginners get a grasp on the game. Otherwise, feel free to leave a comment below and we’ll answer your question to the best of our ability.
