New to Dungeons and Dragons? You probably have a lot of questions about everything you’re being exposed to. One thing you might have been hearing – and consequently want to know about – is the D&D Adventurers League.

Honestly, even we didn’t know about it until very recently. For that reason, we’ve written a quick post about what the DnD Adventurers League is, and we’ll also let you know what we feel are some advantages to joining.

TL;DR Explanation: What is DnD Adventurers League?

If someone asked you to guess what D&D Adventurers League is and you didn’t know much, you might guess that it was some competitive way of playing the tabletop game. After all, when we hear the word “league,” we tend to assume there’s some kind of competition involved.

But that’s not really the case here. D&D Adventurers League is like a giant campaign that anyone can join in from literally anywhere. Sessions can take place in local game stores, conventions, event venues, or even online.

You can join in as a player, or you can step up to the challenge of being a DM – whichever you’re more comfortable with. If this sounds like something you’re interested in being a part of, you can find all the information on how to join on the D&D Adventurers League’s starting page.

There are a lot of advantages to joining the Adventurers League. For one thing, consider how hard it can be to get a campaign of your own going, especially if you live in a small town.

It’s almost always easy to find players, but a willing DM? It’s impossible sometimes.

The Adventurers League takes a lot of the frustration out of hunting for a gaming group. Sure, if you’re trying to host an Adventurers League event of your own in a local gaming shop, there can be a little more work involved. But if you’re trying to play online with a group, there are tons of resources available.

Second, consider how difficult designing a story for your campaign can be. We know we’ve spent literal weeks planning sessions before. A lot can go into every single one, especially if you don’t have as much experience running them.

With the Adventurers League, you can buy access to an evolving storyline. You won’t need to create an entire scenario from scratch. In some ways, that makes it perfect for novice DMs who are worried about writing their own campaigns.

Perhaps the best thing about the League, though, is the network of other players it can connect you to. We know as well as anyone that it can be insanely difficult to meet other people with similar interests.

This is painfully true when it comes to tabletop RPGs. Although it’s been weirdly trendy in recent years to play Dungeons and Dragons (think about its appearance in Stranger Things), it’s still not easy to meet other players to adventure with.

Should You Try It?

So, is the Adventurers League worth trying out? If you couldn’t have guessed from everything we wrote above, yes, we’d say it’s at least worth a shot.

Something like the Adventurers League could be extra beneficial to any players living in isolated areas. As long as you have an internet connection, you can find groups to play with.

Wrap Up

We think one of the best things about DnD is how it continues to evolve with the times in regards to how you play it, while still maintaining its immersive fantasy setting. The D&D Adventurers League is just another way you can visit the Forgotten Realms, whether or not you’re able to get together a gaming group locally.
